Slate Roof Installation & Restoration
Slate has been used as a roofing material for hundreds of years, for both the aesthetic appeal it brings to a building as well as the practical properties it naturally has:
- Slate tiles are very durable ensuring that your new roof installation will require little future maintenance.
- Slate absorbs very little water (it has a water absorption index of less than 0.5%) making it waterproof.
- Insulating – reduces noise pollution and energy expenditure.
- More environmentally friendly than other building materials due to its smaller carbon footprint (Inventory of Carbon and Energy, University of Bath (UK)).
If you are looking to have a new roof installed, Top Tier Slate Roofing will work with you to choose the right type of slate to create a beautiful roof that will last more than a lifetime.
Top Tier Slate Roofing is an Australian owned and operated company, and as such we are able to provide a personalised slate roofing service that many roofing companies servicing the Melbourne area cannot. We take the time to sit down with you and discuss your needs as well as budget so that we can determine which of our slates is the right one for you.
Top Tier Slate Roofing offer a variety of slates which include:
Top Tier Slate Roofing only uses slate that is of the highest quality and durability to make sure that your roof will maintain its longevity and attractiveness.
Slate from Wales is sourced from two quarries, Penrhyn and Cwt-y-Bugail, and is well-known as the highest quality slate available due to its ability to withstand the harshest of weather conditions. Each quarry produces slate of a different colour, Heather Blue from Penrhyn and Welsh Dark Grey from Cwt-y-Bugail
Glendyne slate from Saint Marc du Lac Long is blue/grey in colour and like Welsh slate, has excellent durability and will not fade in colour when exposed to the sun.
Although there can be a great deal of variation in the quality of Spanish slate, we only source slate that will last. Slate from Del Carmen in Spain is black in colour.
An eco-friendly alternative to new slate is using the original slate from your roof if it is of sufficient quality. The slate will be carefully removed, old battens and felt will be replaced with new, and the original slate reinstated (re-roofing). Another popular use of reclaimed slate is in roof extensions. Repurposed slate is colour-matched to ensure a smooth transition from original roof to extension.
No matter what slate you choose, you can be sure that it will be installed with great care and precision by me and our highly trained roofing technicians. So if you are looking for a slate roof installation, slate roof restoration or something as small as a slate repair contact Top Tier Slate Roofing today and set up a free consultation at your home in Melbourne.
In addition to the slate, other materials that will be used to install your slate roof are:
- Breathable felt membrane
- Pine battens (40mm x 35mm)
- Copper or stainless steel clout nails
